The public or private colleges where the programs take place have to be accredited for the reasons of funding and be situated in a Qu\u00e9bec region outside the Greater Montr\u00e9al area.<\/li>\n<li><strong>University candidates:<\/strong>\u00a0Candidates are required to pursue studies or research undertakings at a Qu\u00e9bec university. Scholarships are available for:\n<ul>\n<li>doctoral (PhD) programs<\/li>\n<li>postdoctoral studies<\/li>\n<li>Short-term research or professional development scholarships<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Benefits of Merit scholarships by Government of Qu\u00e9bec<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The beneficiaries of Merit scholarships by Government of Qu\u00e9bec benefit from;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a scholarship that provides financial aid all through their studies<\/li>\n<li>an exclusion from the difference in tuition fees payable by foreign candidates<\/li>\n<li>health insurance cover offered by the R\u00e9gie de l\u2019assurance maladie du Qu\u00e9bec (RAMQ)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Vocational training candidates: The Merit Scholarship award for 900-hour programs is valued at $14\u00a0000. An added sum of $1\u00a0400 is included for every extra 100 hours, to at most $26\u00a0000 for 1\u00a0800-hour programs. Programs of less than 100 hours are not qualified.<\/li>\n<li>Technical training students at the college level:The Merit Scholarship is valued at $14\u00a0000 per year. The scholarship award beneficiary has to re-apply for the scholarship award on a yearly basis, up to at most three years, which is the normal length of a technical training program.<\/li>\n<li>Doctoral research scholarships:\u00a0$25\u00a0000 per year. The maximum length for this scholarship award is three years, with a possible leeway of up to 12 months.
